Hanna Andréa Challenges Screen-Obsessed Culture With New Anthem “GET OFF YOUR PHONE”

Norwegian-American pop artist Hanna Andréa enters a bold new chapter with “GET OFF YOUR PHONE,” the powerful new single released on April 24 that turns modern digital exhaustion into an infectious pop anthem filled with nostalgia, emotion, and sharp social commentary.

Serving as the lead single from her upcoming EP Braveheart, the track captures one of the defining realities of modern life: the emotional disconnect created by constant screen time. Instead of approaching the topic with heavy-handed criticism, Andréa delivers the message with wit, cinematic storytelling, and an irresistibly catchy pop-rock energy that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Co-written alongside Michael Biancaniello, James Conner, Kelsey Gauthier, and Dominique Vellutato, “GET OFF YOUR PHONE” blends polished pop melodies with flashes of late-’90s and early-2000s rock nostalgia. Driven by restless muted guitars and a carefree Americana-inspired atmosphere, the song evokes the spirit of artists like Avril Lavigne while carrying the emotional immediacy and modern edge often associated with Olivia Rodrigo. Yet Andréa’s voice remains entirely her own, balancing vulnerability with confidence in a way that feels authentic rather than manufactured.

From its opening lines, the song immediately establishes an emotional sense of longing and missed connection:
“Today I saw a shooting star / Not far from where you are / And all the places we used to go.”

The lyrics reflect on how meaningful moments often pass unnoticed when attention is consumed by endless scrolling and digital distraction. As the song progresses, Andréa shifts from quiet reflection to subtle frustration, culminating in the track’s memorable spoken-word refrain:
“’Cause you’re on your phone.”

What makes the single particularly effective is its ability to balance social commentary with emotional accessibility. Rather than sounding cynical, “GET OFF YOUR PHONE” feels cinematic and uplifting, like the soundtrack to a coming-of-age film confronting the realities of modern relationships and emotional distance.

Musically, the song also signals a clear artistic evolution for Andréa. While maintaining the atmospheric and cinematic qualities that have defined her previous work, this release leans further into immediate pop songwriting and sharper hooks. The production creates a nostalgic atmosphere that recalls a pre-digital era, encouraging listeners to reconnect with presence, emotion, and real human interaction.

The release also introduces Braveheart, Andréa’s upcoming EP featuring the songs “Pinnacles,” “Float,” and the piano-driven title track “Braveheart,” which was released on March 27. Across the project, Andréa explores themes of self-acceptance, imperfection, emotional resilience, and personal growth, further establishing herself as one of the more compelling emerging voices in contemporary pop.

The title track “Braveheart” stands as one of the emotional centerpieces of the project. Built around soaring melodies and cinematic piano arrangements, the song explores the pressure many people feel to appear perfect while quietly struggling internally. The opening lyrics immediately capture that emotional tension:
“These walls / Have secrets bricks full of stories 20ft tall / You’ll find / Your weakness / Is fighting to be perfect feeling so small.”

Produced in collaboration with Los Angeles producer Michael Biancaniello — known for work with artists including Jordin Sparks, Shawn Mendes, and Kelly Clarkson — alongside Swedish producer Michael Viklund, the Braveheart EP expands Andréa’s sonic identity with elements of modern pop, indie textures, and subtle emo-pop influences.

Since her 2024 debut release “Starlight,” Hanna Andréa has steadily built a distinctive artistic identity that combines atmospheric synths, orchestral elements, layered vocals, and deeply cinematic storytelling. Frequently compared to artists such as AURORA, Laufey, Tommee Profitt, and Jacob Collier, Andréa stands apart through her commitment to creating immersive “bodies of work” rather than isolated singles.

That vision was especially evident on her debut LP Stranded In The Middle, a fully realized project accompanied by visual collaborations with Northern Norwegian artists. Beyond music, Andréa has also expanded her creative world into theater through Muse! The Shakespeare Mayhem Musical, a pop-infused stage production co-created with Lisa Sanderson. After premiering at Lincoln Center, the production was selected for the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it will run from August 7–31 at Underbelly’s Cowbarn.

Originally developed at Interlochen Arts Academy, Muse! has evolved into a large-scale theatrical production supported by Broadway professionals. Andréa’s songwriting style — blending sharp lyricism, contemporary pop production, and character-driven storytelling — shapes the musical’s dynamic score and emotional depth.

Part of what makes Hanna Andréa’s artistry so compelling is the unique cultural perspective behind it. Raised between Norway and the United States, she developed a bicultural identity shaped by Arctic landscapes, American prairie culture, and life in coastal American cities. Her upbringing north of the Arctic Circle continues to influence the emotional atmosphere and visual imagination found throughout her work.

Andréa is also a proud citizen of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, an identity that contributes to the grounded authenticity and emotional honesty present throughout her music and creative vision. Combined with training at prestigious institutions including Interlochen Center for the Arts, Princeton University, and Lincoln Center, her background reflects both artistic ambition and cultural depth.

With “GET OFF YOUR PHONE,” Hanna Andréa delivers one of her most relatable and impactful releases to date. The song succeeds not only as a catchy pop anthem, but also as a timely reflection on modern emotional disconnection and the importance of being fully present in life’s most meaningful moments.

At a time when much of contemporary pop culture is shaped by short attention spans and endless digital noise, Andréa’s work feels refreshingly human, cinematic, and emotionally sincere — qualities that continue to position her as an exciting artist to watch in the evolving pop landscape.

“With ‘GET OFF YOUR PHONE,’ Hanna Andréa transforms one of modern society’s most common addictions into a smart, emotionally charged pop anthem. Blending cinematic storytelling, early-2000s pop-rock nostalgia, and authentic songwriting, Andréa continues to prove herself as one of contemporary pop’s most promising emerging voices.” — Music-Alive
