“Confetti” by Gemini Blues presents itself as a deceptively buoyant piece of indie-rock that uses celebration as metaphor rather than destination (There isn’t a party to go to in this song). On the surface, the song is colorful and kinetic which is built around repetition, simple melodic hooks, and an almost childlike insistence on joy. Beneath that exterior, however, it reads as a study in control, longing, and emotional negotiation. It is my hope that interest in the song and video encourages listeners to explore previous releases which are decidedly more gritty and contain much more social commentary.
