Dramatic and operatic, PH Mazza is back with a sound that demands attention. New instrumental track “Kapusta Golema” sits neatly between the Rocky Horror lab and the delightful pluck of Elton John’s piano strings, proving that the art of glam is alive and well. Inspired by the likes of Tom Waits and David Bowie, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist PH Mazza – aka Pedro Henrique Souza Boaventura – is playfully macabre. While his previous releases have featured stunning, theatrical vocals, “Kapusta Golema” explores the realm of endless instrumental possibility, experimenting with a wide variety of synth sounds – including, but not limited to the dulcimer, glockenspiel, timpani, and a variety of brass. “I went to the Czech Republic and saw Der Golem the movie, and there were golem posters all around the city,” PH Mazza explains the story of his latest track title. He took note of a commonly eaten vegetable in the area: cabbage. Inspired by The Mighty Imperials song “Thunder Chicken”, PH Mazza, as a vegetarian, thought it would be fun to name his track in a similar vein. And so, “Kapusta Golema” (or “Golem’s Cabbage”) was born. Hauntingly unique, PH Mazza is a classically trained pianist turned ghoul, shining onstage in sequins and a smile. Working with a plethora of talented artists, “Kapusta Golema” is a journey, opening the curtains on a catchy organ riff, halting for a beefy drum solo, and crescendoing into an epic explosive guitar arrangement. Brazen, bold, and boisterous, PH Mazza is a musical magician, and you can be sure there’s more up his sleeve. Check out PH Mazza’s latest, “Kapusta Golema” out November 15.
